Rebecca F. Kuang is a titan of contemporary speculative fiction, known for her formidable intellect and her ability to weave complex historical and academic critiques into gripping narratives. Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1996, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Kuang emerged as a literary prodigy with her debut novel, "The Poppy War" (2018). Written while she was still an undergraduate, the trilogy reimagines twentieth-century Chinese history through a dark, shamanic fantasy lens, earning her the Astounding Award for Best New Writer.

Kuang's academic background is as distinguished as her literary career. She holds an MPhil in Chinese Studies from Cambridge and an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies from Oxford. Currently pursuing a PhD in East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale, her scholarly expertise in language and colonialism heavily informs her 2022 masterpiece, "Babel," which won the Nebula and Locus Awards.
